Dear Anita, All,
Just a quick update on the situation with Jets.
Laura is on board for SS433. I am waiting to hear back from Michael Zacharias about a general AGN monitoring/flares talk. (Alicja is not attending but I have asked them to coordinate).
Dorit will not be there, so I am thinking about a replacement for M87, but will update you on that tomorrow. For the time being, I expect to ask for 3*20mins. It would be useful to have 20 min talk plus some discussion time, but that could be negotiated once we see the other inputs presented to the EC.
All the best
Garret

Hi Anita - sorry for the late response. There is a contribution wrt LIV by Christelle Levy (20 Min), the IGS is clear (Moulin). THomas Tavernier will report on PBH (20 Minutes). And finally, we will discuss tomorrow about whether we will have another contribution on the WLM dwarf irregular. So far, this has not been discussed.

Hi Dieter,
to have the final schedule by Wednesday afternoon is perfectly fine. If
I could get a rough estimate of the total time (no exact breakdown nor
titles nor corresponding speakers must be known at this stage) by
Tuesday evening though, would be very helpful for me to give the EC at
the Wednesday morning meeting a rough estimate of the total time the
Astrophysics Department would need at the collaboration meeting. Would
this be possible?
All the best,
Anita

Dear All,
the minutes (thanks to Emma & Carlo for helping here!) & other
material sent around during the F2F-meeting are now all on confluence:
https://hess-confluence.desy.de/confluence/display/HESS/Meetings+of+the+Ast…
Reminder AP program at collaboration meeting:
As a rough estimate for tomorrow's EC-meeting I will assume an average
talk duration of ~30min (incl. discussion) per topic unless communicated
to me otherwise.
Best wishes,
Anita
Dear Jacco, Gerd, Regis, Manami,
at the F2F-meeting of the Astrophysics WG conveners we have been
discussing the possibility of HESS submitting a proposal to the recently
(beginning of this month) announced XMM Multi-Year Heritage Programms
https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/xmm-newton/news-20200203
and collected ideas as sketched in the pdf attached.
As you being experts and experienced in both the X-ray and VHE regime we
would like to get your opinion, and enquire whether you would be
interested in and have the time to playing a significant role in this
endeavor. We need to decide quickly whether we should give it a try
(your expert opinion is here extremely important): The deadline of LoI
submission is already next Monday!
All the best,
Anita

Dear Executive committee,
Yesterday night we observed the Gravitational Wave event S200224ac. We
were able to observe 3 positions on the GW map with 4 runs covering ~70%
of the total map (considering a FoV of 2 degrees). We would like to submit
our pointings to the treasure map tool: http://treasuremap.space which is
a tool designed to help coordinate electromagnetic follow-up of GW events
and for that we would need your approval.
The covered positions are:
RA: 174.99; Dec: -9.9
RA: 173.58; Dec: -6.58
RA: 176.31; Dec: -13.02
We will publish only the pointings assuming a generic FoV with 2deg radius
without mentioning the durations, sensitivities, upper limits or any other
related information.
Details on the H.E.S.S. data taken during this ToO can be found here:
https://hess-confluence.desy.de/confluence/display/HESS/GW%3A+S200224ca+H.E…

Dear All,
the organizers of the Vulcano Workshop are looking for a HESS
speaker who could provide an overview talk of recent HESS results at the
Vulcano Workshop 2020 in Sicily in the week 17-22 May (see messages

tentative deadline is already end of this month.

Dear all,
I got asked in January to go to a workshop in Italy in mid-May. Although
formerly I was under the impression to present recent gamma-ray results
and an outlook to CTA, the organisers are now asking to present
“H.E.S.S. latest results”.
Since I’m now attending the CTA meeting in Sofia, I’m not able to
attend. Since the title changed, I’m forwarding the request to you.
Note that the tentative deadline to report back is already end of the month.
This may be a good opportunity to promote people that do technical work
and give them more credit/visibility outside of HESS.
All the best, Stefan

Dear all,
we will have two meeting next week:
Monday, Feb 24 ~ 12 CET through Tuesday, Feb 25 afternoon the OC will meet.
Tuesday, Feb 25 ~ 14 CET through Wednesday, Feb 26 noon the conveners will
meet.
You are invited to attend the OC meeting. As discussed earlier, not all of
you will be able to participate in the OC meeting in person. We have hence
agreed that there shall be a dedicated session for interaction between OC
and conveners that cannot attend in person (tentative 1h, might be
extended if necessary) to enable any exchange that is desired.
The OC originally suggested Tuesday morning, 10 am for this session. It
turns out, however, that this is poor timing for those of you who will
attend the conveners meeting only, and who will travel on Tuesday morning.
An alternative option would be a meeting on Tuesday noon, when all who
attend the conveners meeting will have arrived. We will pick the option
that maximizes participation.
To settle logistics (lunches, breaks, joint meeting), please return the
following to me by Wednesday, Feb 19 12 am and/or fill the table on
participation at
https://hess-confluence.desy.de/confluence/display/HESS/F2F+meeting+2020-02…

I will not be able to attend the conveners meeting but would participate
via Vibe during the following times: ....
================
Travel:
Both meetings will be at the observatory, LSW, in Heidelberg.
I assume most of you have been at LSW before. You may use Bus #39 or Bus #30
for 'Sternwarte' (preferred) or 'Max-Planck Institut Astronomie (not
Kernphysik!, next door). Most hotels in the old city center
or around "Bismarckplatz" offer connections to public transportation.
However, taxis also offer a reasonable service.
https://www.mpia.de/en/service/directions_to_mpia/public_transpot
and
https://www.mpia.de/en/service/directions_to_mpia/car
describe options to go to MPIA. MPIA is next to the observatory
("Landessternwarte") and it only a few minutes walk from one to the other.
Bus #39 stops closer to "Landessternwarte",
bus #30 stops closer to "MPIA"
If you take a taxi, it is worth to check they turn into
"Landessternwarte" (some taxi drivers confuse the two places),
but again, they sit side-by-side.
We meet in 'Seminarraum' of 'Nordinstitut' (former CTA project office, for
those who had visited that).
If you have trouble on the way, pls. contact our secretary, Mrs. Mueller,
on 06221-175491. I might be moving about. Mobile phones (including mine)
have poor connection on Koenigstuhl.
The meeting:
Please contact Anita for any suggestions or add to the agenda:

best regards,

Dear All,
the minutes from our previous vibe-meeting last week are now online:
https://hess-confluence.desy.de/confluence/display/HESS/Meetings+of+the+Ast…
I also would like to confirm that the *hess-ap F2F-meeting* of all AWG
conveners does take place, from *25 February (~noon) to 26 February
**(~noon) *at the Landessternwarte Heidelberg, as we have discussed at
the last vibe meeting. A dedicated confluence page with the agenda has
been set up:
https://hess-confluence.desy.de/confluence/display/HESS/F2F+meeting+2020-02…
which also collects ideas (please add!) about the format of the AP-part
of the upcoming HESS collaboration meeting. This point will be finalized
at the F2F-meeting; please prepare for this F2F-meeting a suggestion
from your side for a preliminary structure of the collaboration
meeting's AP-agenda.
Today the OC had a first telecon meeting after the proposal deadline. In
total, 40 proposal were received. This week they will be screened and
integrated into the data base and shall be available for everyone next week.
At this telecon also the role of the AWG conveners was briefly
discussed. All AWG conveners are kindly invited to participate
throughout the whole OC F2F-meeting in Heidelberg (24 Febr (~noon) - 25
Febr (~noon)) where the proposals will be evaluated. Appreciating your
effort to support the OC and your desire to optimize efficiency another
suggestion was made. Reserving a dedicated 1-2 hrs block to interact on
any questions from the OC to the AWG conveners that may arise in the
evaluation was suggested. This could be scheduled for Tuesday (25 Feb)
morning with in person (preferred option; vibe should be possible, too)
discussions between the OC and conveners. Would you be available/
interested in?
All the best,
Anita
Hi Gianluca!
Excellent! Many thanks for willing to take over this overview talk! I'll
send a corresponding note to the CRIS2020 organizers today (cc to you).
